Internet Explorer/Yahoo Messenger Woes
#1
Okay, this is weird as all hell. We finally got our other computer properly configured (not enough time to do it before), and ever since getting the CPU and memory configured properly, IE and Yahoo Messenger COMPLETELY lock up Windows XP. I know that Yahoo Messenger uses IE services, so it's no surprise that Yahoo does it. I've looked all over google for potential information and have thus far come up empty-handed. Does anyone know why this is happening, and how to fix it? And don't say "use Firefox", coz first of all, madre already does, and second of all, Yahoo Messenger doesn't use the Mozilla DLLs and you can't change that...and also, don't try saying "so don't use Yahoo Messenger" because that's not an option either coz madre needs it. So...any ideas?
I'd knock on wood, but my desk is particle board.

Reinstall Windows or use Trillian...

There are yahoo messenger alternatives, such as:
- gaim
- trillian
- easy message

But that problem is still quite nasty. You could try install Internet Explorer 6.0 again, maybe that will work. Or perhaps you have spyware/adware/scripts etc that need to be checked and removed.

nek, do only those programs lock up the computer? I have been facing a similar problem. I used to play this old DOS game and it never gave any trouble. But since I changed the memory, it started locking up the computer. Only that program is doing it. None of the other native windows or DOS apps are doing it :-? When i changed back the memory it still locked up. So i am unsure what the problem really was...

You could try changing the memory, try a different processor and see whats its effect.

Speaking of lock ups.

My comp is the weirdest, I get random lockups when a program use disk swapping a lot. Very annoying, if I do a defrag, everythng works fine for a day or so, then it comes back.

And it comes back even if I have 0% fragmentation (IE: No new files, no changed files) very strange IMO.

Ado, try getting a new copy of IExplorer.exe, or the crashing DLL.

My IE keept crashing, or rather: VCRTL.DLL (the C/C++ Runtime lib for windows) i replaced it with a new version, everything was fine.

Incredimail, which also uses IE services, also does it. madre uses the dumbest programs...

Well, it looks like Rhiannon wants me to reinstall Windows anyways, so I guess that's what we're gonna do. Sad Thanks for the ideas though, guys. Big Grin
