New QBasic site

That's why IE still has to be kept in mind. If you make your site purely compliant and it doesn't render right in IE most people just won't visit it. As I said, sad but true.

And I don't consider myself a noob for using IE, just lazy. As I've said many times, I get more sites badly rendered in FF than I get in IE, so I'm just practical. I don't give a damn about standards, I've never been a purist. I just want to browse.

Plus FF is far from perfect, specially the linux version which I'm obligued to use at work. FF hates IFRAMEs and always render them bad no matter what you do. If you set up a <div>, things contained within are supposed to scale according to the <div> size. That happens with everything but IFRAMES which just ignore divs in FF.

And don't begin to talk about security and stuff, I don't have problems with that, specially now with SP2.

Well, hopefully the next version of FireFox will be better. I use FireFox, not because it's better than IE, but because I've used IE every day since I got an internet connection back in '98. I sort of just wanted to try something new. But like na_th_an, I just want to browse.

IE is better than FireFox at rendering a small percentage of the sites on the Internet...I'll agree with you guys on that point...but in every other aspect, I find it much worse.

FireFox has Tabbed Browsing (which I can not live without), extensive Ad-Blocking features (I haven't seen an ad in months), and hundreds of other custom extensions, many of which I've installed.

I use FireFox for all browsing, and when I come across one of those rare pages that won't render properly, I simply right-click and select "View This Page in IE". I installed an extension so that when I need it, I can use IE...and meanwhile still have tabbed browsing, no ads, and not have to about getting adware and tracking cookies. The argument that we should use IE because it renders pages better is blown out of the water -- because now with extensions, viewing pages with IE is built into FireFox. With FF, you get the best of both worlds.

There are hundreds of sites that are coded for IE...any site that uses IE-specific CSS styles is going to render badly in FireFox.

As for the argument that IE is better than Firefox, that's lame and stupid. Firefox has changed the way I browse, with tabbed browsing, amazing extensions, constant updates, and the fact that as Pete said, I can view that rare site in IE if I want.

I wish everyone was a HTML purist. The web would be a better place.

And FYI, while IE might be the dominant browser, I don't think many grannies and 15 year old rebelloious teenager girls will be coming to your site. In fact, I wrote a PHP stat monitor on one of my sites a while back, and 12% or something was IE hits. 75% was Firefox. You can't use those statistics and judge FF.

It would be interesting to put a small script on the index page of this site and see what happens.

I never said IE was better than FF. I said that IE renders OK more pages 'cause these pages are coded for IE. That sucks? Yes. I wrote it like three times.

What I don't understand is the FF passion. I use several programs 'cause I like them, but don't feel the need to "spread the news" nor evangelize. You use FF, you are happy with it, let us IE users alone!.

All of you with firefox banners in your sigs... is the firefox staff paying you or something? It's like if I placed a "BUY PHOTOSHOP!" banner in my sig...

I agree with na_th_an. FireFox is a great browser, but so is IE. It's up to the user to choose which browser he/she likes best. Besides, this is a QB forum, not a browser forum Smile

It's fine, but I get really pissed off with the whole "noob, you use IE!" attitude. If someone uses FF to be more 'leet... well.

I don't use FF to be leet, or call IE users noobs. My reasons for not using IE are from a web standards and functionality perspective only.

I also don't like the FF propaganda though...
