wildcard, one way some sites make some extra money is by having a paypal donation link. It's sorta cheesey and tends to give the "I'm a beggar!" look to your site (depends on the site nature, really), but it works for some people.
Perhaps some of the qbasicnews Qmunity could chip in and help with costs? We're looking to sign a new contract at DBS right now and if (when) we win the bid, we'll donate some money to QBN.

I basically have the same feelings as Nathan. If a few ads help to continue financing this great site and forum, then I agree with allowing ads.

i honestly cannot believe what i am reading here. its just blowing my mind. do you people really care that much that there are gonna be ads on the main page that i'm sure almost every one of you doesn't even visit anymore?! thats like saying, "Were gonna put an oil rig in siberia", then having people protest it.
Get over yourselves!!! they are just advertisements! they won't kill you!

I have virtually all major advertising firms blocked already, so it doesn't matter to me...gotta love FireFox and the hosts file

Ado, paypal doesnt give the "I am a begger" appearance to the site. The owner/maintainers are asking something in return. If the people surfing the site like it then they can donate something they believe the site deserves.

I said it TENDS to give the appearance, I didn't say it WILL give the appearance.
I also mentioned that it depends on the nature of the site.
