When you get a "BSOD" in any version of NT, it's because something REALLY messed up. 
Kernel errors, hardware failure, etc. BSODs in 9x can come from virtually anything. I've had one XP BSOD since buying this computer, and it was one I sorta caused myself. If you have stable hardware and aren't a computer moron, you should never see a BSOD in XP...unless you're trying to see one.
