@oracle: I would agree with tbbq, his post wasn't insulting.

Also @ tbbq, most schools don't even allow you to install software on their laptops, or even change the settings.

I'd prefer to keep that private
The Mac people already had their quarrels with them before school started.
The tech office also says that linux is a 'Hacker OS' :barf:. Umm......Last time I checked it was the most secure and the most efficient type of server OS. Also....It's easy enough to use Windows for hacking......I don't believe the tech office has ever heard of 'porting' software (But I bet most of it was developed on windows anyways).

It's not.
It could be said in an insulting way, but I don't think it was this time.

Ooh I thought you got you're own laptops. If its the school's laptop then you gotta follow their rules =(. But anyway a dual boot with WinXP wont harm anyone

eno_no: FreeBSD is also on the block and some claim it to be more secure than Linux Wink. But everybody's opinion is different. Why dont you guys start a Linux club @ your school. If there is sufficient subscription then they have to listen to your demands =P.

We had a linux club - it was disbanded by the tech office demons.
