Computer Hardware, Power wires
#1
Inside your computer, the power supply wires to different stuff, like CD etc.

The cables are paired 4 and 4.

With the colours:
Red, Black, Black, Yellow
(Or reversed obviously)

Now, which cable, does what?

I'm building a model thingy, and I'm using a computer power adapter as my main power supply. So it would be good to know.

On the adapter it says:

+5V, 16A
+12V, 12A
-5V, 0.3A
-12V, 0.5A

So, are the two black different?, and if they arent, why would there be two?

Also, someone told me that you could combine (in some way) the cables and get, 7V. Is this correct, and if so, how would one do?

Never mind, I just tried it, and it worked.

mazing what fun you can have with old hardware, I'm currently using power adapter, engines from fluppy drive (along with some gears), engines from CD drive, along with gear and axels and stuf. Fans, Diods, and loads of cables.

I'm going to try and get a digital cam and take a pic of it. The model that is.

It's a model city thingy, something... Big Grin
