Making a .iso (or similar) of a orignial CD
#1
I have a game-cd (Battlefield 1942) that I wan't to have as a .iso (or .img or .bin) file on my computer in order to run the game faster then from the CD-ROM.

Now, how do I make a .iso out of a original cd? For dvd's it's easier (I got a program called DVD Decrypter that makes it easy) but with cd's I don't know how. I have Nero (but can't use that for this) and I've heard about ISO Buster but don't think that is the solution....any ideas?

Thanx!

BF1942, like most recent games, already copies all the files to your computer when you install it. The game simply checks to make sure the CD is present when you start the game. (You can disable this check with a "no CD" patch.)

Anyway, to grab a CD image from Nero, you can use Recorder -> Save track.

If I remember correctly, Nero doesn't save in .ISO format but in it's own format .. doesn't it?

Nero saves in NRG, which is just ISO with extra data at the end. Any program that uses ISOs should work with NRGs, because they are otherwise identical.

You can also use a RAR packe to pack the entire CD, with null compression, as a single RAR file...

Which can be read by Daemon Tools...

Though it's not recomended, and only work on certain CD's...

Alcohol 120% works great, but it's "not free" that is, unless you know where to look Wink

it also creates virtual drives on your computer so that you can load the *.ISO files onto them and they act as a 'removable storage device' (DVD drive)

Plasma: I thought that a no-cd-patch would make it impossible to run the game and play it online.... I know it works to play it offline with a no-cd-patch but since there can only be one game (with it's unique serialnumber) playing onlie I doubt it would work...

It works fine online as long as you installed it with a valid CD key.

Yeah, if you've installed it with a valid key and whatnot, the key is saved onto your computer, and then when you run the game multiplayer there can only be one unique key (yours.) But the No-CD thing SHOULD work. Alls it is is a different .EXE file usually, so you can always back-up the original one in case it doesn't work.
