Full song from Project's upcoming album
#1
Well, recently I've been hard at work on a new musical project-- Aptly titled 'PROJECT'-- it's sort of a blend of thrash metal and very pissed-off industrial.
Some could say it has nu-metal elements, but the only real relevances are the lack of solos. Luckily, there are no whiny and/or grungy parts on the album whatsoever.
The album has been musically complete for awhile now, and mostly I've been working on mixing, while my brother does the vocal duties.
Anyway, there's one full song that's completely mixed, 'The Freak Lives', and you can get it here to get a sense of the 'musical' (noise?) style:

Enjoy. Or try to. Smile

When you say, "whiny"... hmmm... I hope you're talking about the vocals and NOT the guitar. Confusedhifty:

I downloaded it a second ago... I'll listen now. Tongue

I say you more real guitar, wise-ass lead guitar and your brother should scream louder... try it again when he doesn't care what anyone else thinks... or your parents aren't home, whichever may be the case. Wink

Eh... Pardon? It's not really possible to scream like that quietly. There's nothing 'restrained' about it, perhaps I've just mixed them a bit far back. Easy to do that with these headphones... But I don't really think it's possible for him to do that 'louder' (or anyone for that matter). And for the record, he doesn't care what the people in the house think-- You should hear him practicing Judas Priest in the shower. Wink
Oh, and of course when I say 'whiny' I mean vocals, not guitar-- You seem to have gotten the impression I despise lead guitar/solos. Not the case. Smile
You see, all the music on the cd is done with samples (as you can tell), and let me tell you-- It's far more difficult to get a lead guitar to sound acceptably convincing/good, unless you just use a single sample (which sounds completely fake).
Believe me when I say if I had the samples for lead, I would use them.

'wise-ass lead guitar'? Or was that supposed to be 'more real guitar, wise-ass. real guitar'? Probably just me, but it seems like you've got some kinda grudge going here. :???:
Anyway, I can't do 'more real guitar' as I don't have access to an electric guitar, and the point of the album isn't exactly to sound 'real'... And of course for reasons already explained, I'm not really in a position to do lead/solos.

Nah... I'm just kinda freaked out about Dimebag. It's actually better than alot of stuff I've heard for quite a while... very creative. Wink

Yeah, the songs is really cool, but ... Well, I don't like sampled solos, but that's me. If you are not skilled to play solos, call a friend or don't use solos. Trust me: a tracked solo where you can figure out that it is tracked, doesn't sound "professional". Electronic music has to sound like plastic, live music has to sound live. Trying to fake live music with electronic music is not a good Idea, nor is the contrary. You made an excellent work, it sounds almost real, but you can still tell that it was tracked. That's the *only* issue I found. Excellent tune Smile thumbs up.

About the voices, you have to mix them better. You should try a different equalization and use some distortion (that's what's used in true thrash metal recordings), otherwise it sounds like a whisper.

Yeah, I agree about sampled solos. That's why I don't use them in my music (at least not the type that's supposed to sound at least moderately 'real').
I'll try and mix the vocals better, though it's really difficult with these headphones when everything sounds tinny... And my speakers aren't much better. Maybe it's time for a new sound system...

What I do is plugging the computer to a small hi-fi I have in my bedroom using a dual coaxial to stereo jack cable.

Well, give this a listen and tell me what you guys think...

For the first few lines of vocals I've put some heavy distortion on them, for the rest it's a lighter, kinda crunchy slight distortion, gets rid of those peircing highs (the 'ch' and 's' sounds especially) and gives it more... character? Haha, I dunno. Sounds a bit better to me, anyway, though I can't really hear what people are saying about the vocals sounding too nervous, as if he doesn't want to be heard. Doesn't sound like that at all to me... :-? Oh well. Opinions/crits please, so I can mix this to the best of my ability.
EDIT: I know the distortion on the first few lines may be a bit heavy... I might ease up on that a little bit.

That's better. The vocals were alot louder that time. Wink

Wanna hear something funny? It scared the crap out of my daughter when he started growling. :rotfl:
