Nasty: Pete's Qb site hacked
#21
Y'know, that kind of people suck.

I was hosting and administrating a comics site that has thousands of visitors 'cause it offers original comics every 15 days. Well, someone thought that it was funny to go accross PHPBB2 and used the server where I was hosted to send spam and to act as an annonymous proxy. Fun. Result? The server went down, they had to spend 4 hours fixing it, and then they decided that no more personal pages could be hosted there. Hence my comics site and download-qb.tk were kicked out.

If I knew how to do that, I would prosecute those bags of scum. But I'm clueless.

Okay, my site and my forum are back up.

I think just about everything is working, and I don't think I lost anything except for the Monthly Poll archives. (There might be more stuff missing that I didn't notice though. Let me know if you find something.)

I also upgraded to the latest version of PHPBB, so hopefully that will fix the security exploit that screwed my site yesterday.

To Pete again:

Excellent!! Way to kick that awful web-worm completely out of there, my man! Big Grin !

And, even more splendid that *very* many to even all of the original stuff in your site (including QB Express, the tutorials, and all other QB mags you stored up) are all back to the way they are supposed to be in the first place: in full properly working condition (as I just found out tonight). CONGRATS!!! d=Wink=b !

Now then, since you originally have said that QB Express #5 was gonna be out before Christmas and since that hack incident occured as well just nearly before the deadline, is the deadline gonna be extended a bit for #5 or is it still gonna be on time? Be sure to let us all know in advance on that, ok please? Thanks!! ^_-

I thank you again for your finely good time, and again, I congratulate you!!! :king:

Hrmm, looks like you got hit with the Santy worm. At least you know nobody was targetting your site... :-\

Just found out about that a little while before I saw your post. Good news (relatively). I'm glad that it wasn't some bastard hacker specifically targeting my site.

I'm planning on releasing the new issue sometime early next week (Monday or Tuesday). BUT: I still don't have many submissions at all. Check the QB Express thread in this forum for more details.

Eventually, I hope to get the magazine back on schedule, publishing on the 15th of every month again. Maybe I'll do that starting in January.

To Pete:

Very good for you. That is all we needed to know, and at least you sure know how to get right back on track on finishing up QB Express #5 (with some help from us, of course, getting the submissions in now) as well as future issues of your hot mag!

Thanks again, and you continue with what you gotta do on your site the way you’ve been doing!! Big Grin

Glad to know you got things worked out, Pete. Could have been the same kind of thing to hit us at TBN, but it was only minor damage to the database. I've patched it up now, so it should be pretty impenetrable. If this becomes a constant problem though, we will, and you should as well, move on to the "simple machines" forum...masmforum took a hit the other week as well, and they upgraded to simple machines (which is the successor to yabb).
I'd knock on wood, but my desk is particle board.

Pete, I'm not an expert in webprogramming -but could you (for security) move forum somewhere else? There's plenty of sites that offer free forums. Just a thought.

Naaah, the forum is integrated with the news posting script, as well as the front page and the "QB News" section. I'd have to remove all of those features if I move the forum elsewhere.

Anyway, from what I've read, PHPBB 2.0.11 should block all known security exploits that have been found to date.
