3Libras (played by ear)

ok, so it's only the intro. but i played the whole thing by ear (the intro that is). for those of you who don't know what i'm talking about, i'm talking about the "A perfect circle" song "3 libras". this is a step up for me seeing as it's a bit harder song to learn than others i've tried. see, i have what my guitar teacher called "the gift" where i can hear a song, then play it. so tell me what you think.

I think that's it, don't have my guitar on me to check though. To move to the higher notes I think the two open notes moved to the 4th fret and D moved down to 6 (then maybe 8 and 11). I may be wrong, but your's sounded very well.

see, i have what my guitar teacher called "the gift" where i can hear a song, then play it. so tell me what you think.

hee, the gift, lemme tell you that this is not really a gift, but only proves that you improved your guitar play. you start to know where to find a tone that sounds like the one you just heard form the record. getting faster at this (and every guitarplayer that puts some effort in his play experiences that) means you can figure out songs faster. leave that teacher, teachers are crap, learn it yourself.

note: i'm replying to both of you.

i said "Had told me" in the previous post. meaning i used to have a guitar teacher. obviously i don't anymore. i don't think anybody needs a guitar teacher after the first few months (although nobody every really "needs" one). i've been on my own for about 4 years now (six years total experience). and i learned more on my own within a week than i did those 2 years.

Guitar teachers suck. I had one many years ago as well. I was just getting back into playing and wanted some "formal instruction". Well, the guy I got was only interested in teaching how to play lead, but I wanted to play rhythm. But I figured "what the hell", and "played along". The problem was that I had played lead in a band in high school before I damaged my left wrist in a work accident, and I knew I'd never be able to play lead again. But I stuck it out anyways (I didn't pay for the lessons). About the only thing useful I learned was the diatonic scale. Eight weeks of lessons and that's all I learned. I stopped going and played on my own in the style I now preferred, and became quite good for awhile.

People are amazed when I do my "Dying Cat" song... yeah... but they never give me money... most of the time it's just like a smelly old boot or something, and they never drop in into the case, they throw it... but, I'm sure you've all had similar experiences... right? right?? No? hmm...

Have you guys ever had a good guitar teacher? No? So they don't exist?
A good guitar teacher won't teach you how to do everything and what's 'right', he'll critique what you're doing and give you perfectly logical and helpful ideas on how to improve.
My 'guitar teacher' (become more of a fellow musician/jam buddy/general music teacher--if I need to know something about music that is) teaches me what I want to know (as opposed to having a set schedule), and/or gives suggestions on my playing, and when I don't feel like I need to learn anything at a certain time or don't really feel like it that day/week, we basically just hang out.
If you think not everyone can afford this-- He charges ten bucks an hour and doesn't do it just for the money.
I know some of you (adosorken especially) will likely suggest that he IS in it just for the money and how I shouldn't trust him to be a friend and all that crap.
Well for once in my life I'm gonna say...
Fuck you. I'll do what I can do and what I think is right.
Oh, and by the way, yeah I do realize I'm currently being the typical 'angsty know-it-all teenager'. Well, if the angst is gonna pass, I might as well enjoy while it lasts, right?
