Those are some strange rules you have there nathan. The best programming technic is as any other language. Use what you need, when you need it. Except goto/gosub.
The most important thing for finishing a project and structuring it in a nice way is to plan it. You start with a very basic plan that just shows what part does what and how they are executed. Then you divide that plan into small parts which you do more detailed planing on. And divide them once again if needed. This is how real programming works. The planning part is a pain in the ass, but it's worth it. If you have a good plan you almost never have to start from scratch after writing lots of code and discovering that it won't work.
And the best advice anyone will give is: Don't take adivce from qbers, allot of the so called advice you'll get is their assumptions which is bs.
