Quote:Yes, I got the Logitec Driver Force on my PS2,.. it makes it feels so real, jerking, garing, the ability to feel the car move.... Great idea!! but leave a keyboard or such control other than this, not all ppl can handle those wheels, :wink: , my brother can't stand mine really..

Yes, the Logitec momo I have is very nice.. Rubber wheel though not like the leather wrapped wheel in my car. But the force feedback is awesome!

I would definately allow for arrow keys. Big Grin

Yeah, I know the physics can get very detailed if you want to accurately model real-world cars. I doubt we would get into anything that indepth off the bat. Would definately have all the leaning, moving parts, correct turning angels, G-forces/slippage on the wheels.

Any good sites on the basics engine rpm / gear ratio /shift points, etc..? I wouldn't think it would be that hard to put that in.. But i haven't looked into it...

What car do you drive in real life? Do you track at all? I have an audi a6, 2.7turbo... It's got 265hp, no mods or anthing.. I have never tracked it. It handles pretty well though Big Grin It would be cool to model it.

Heh, and my name "The Car" is because my last name is Carr. I've used that alias for YEARS. Smile

I have a Jeep, 115 hp, not street legal yet.. mainly I take it and practice rally racing in stuff out in my feild,. I would love a 271hp Mitsu Evo 8, brilant cars those are.. heh, I only got a learners too, so? no tracking, yet.

Gear ratios, rpm, shift points,. heh heh, get the Auto Math Handbook by John Lawlor, great stuff,. even works on GT3 for moding the parts. :wink: Simple stuff really tho:

MPH = (RPM * Tire diameter)/(gear ratio * 336)
Most tires are 26 in.. :wink: And most modern cars have the ratio charts laying around for each gear.

Shift points also double with RPM torqu, formula for the RPM part:

RPM after shift = (ratio shift into/ ratio shift from) * RPM b4 shift

To get the torqu takes a little more, as you need to know the engine torqu at diff RPMs, I think you can find spec sheets with this, even at 1 RPM, there formulas to find the others.. ne way, getting that Handbook will help you alot.. 4 the game, and for you Audi. :wink:

Try this link:

I studied it a while back. I started an isometric race car game with DirectQB for a QBNZ challenge, but everyone seemed to drop out. :roll:

There is good info on that site though. Wink
