Well, I've been a big fan of those oriental movies full of martial arts. I think they should've used people who actually knew how to fight. To me, it is just a bunch of slow and predictable movements, like that bad guy who stands without moving waiting for the new punch.

i love those types of bad guys... like jet li from lethal weapon 4 who was kicking ass with a metal pipe stuck through his stomach.

hehehe [reminds himself of the mafia war scene from the simpsons]

Matrix is cool, no doubt about it 8)

Still, when it comes to kung-fu-kick-ass-movies I prefer Croushing tiger, hidden dragon :king: And while I'm on it, anyone has seen Hero ?

I could barely stand CTHD. It was so boring... and I didn't like the flying thing at all. Never seen Hero...

The plot for reloaded might be pretty lame, but the special effects are incredible.

I agree. Thought it was a load of pretentious twaddle. And why, exactly, did she throw herself off a mountain at the end? Answers on a postcard please.

Matrix - cool flick, not quite sure why it achieved cult status. There's only a few films I would sit through twice or more and this isn't one of them.

If you want to see some top-draw classic kung-fu, check out Jackie Chan's Drunken Master. Saw it last week, great stuff Smile And you'll see where Shun from the Virtua Fighter series came from..

The Matrix has a lot of potential for 'expanded universe' type fan participation. That's its big advantage. It lures people in with the crazy special effects and premise, and then hooks them with the philisophical side.

I haven't viewed it more than half a dozen times, I imagine... but it's not hard to see why people become intrigued with it. And this new trailer definitely kicks some serious ass.

I will go to the cinema when it is released, but I have the extrange feeling that it is gonna suck the big time ... Tongue

Also, releasing 2nd and 3rd parts that sooner is, IMHO, a commercial suicide. There are only a few months in between !!

drunken master was a good movie, but my favorite jackie chan thing was when he jumped inside a ladder, and swung the ladder like a bow and kicked, like, 20 guy's ass with it. and van damn movies, despite the guy acts like he has arthritis, and can't kick without it being repeated in slow motion so it looks more agile, are so bad they're a fun watch on saturday night.

the problem with the matrix, like crouching tiger, hidden dragon and iron monkey and other "wire fu" movies, is that it looks so damned bad. the matrix tried to make it look cooler by adding a bunch of funky digital effects but wire fu is wire fu, and at least the people in crouching tiger, hidden dragon and iron monkey are actual martial arts masters and you will see fights in there that even with wires, can't be duplicate by keanu reeves and 4 months of training.

I quite like the Matrix for what it is, I dont think its the best movie of all time and my concern about the next two is that they will flag the plot completely for a chance to dazzle the audience with "amazing" kung-fu antics and we will have another Dare-devil on our hands.

If you have any form of martial art of combat sport training (Ive done competition fencing) then choreographed movie fights become plain ridiculous to watch (How did he miss that, why didnt he hit him there, etc etc).

My flatmates and I watched Bruce Lee's Enter the Dragon the other day and that is cool fighting (because most of it is real, no wires) and Bruce Lee is just phenomanly fast. Ive also watched some live martial arts tournaments (friends of mine do Karate and Capoiera) and seen some incredibly fast fencers in action (first hand even, as I was slaughtered off the piste ;-)). The real thing is much cooler to watch than fake backflips done on wires.

That said I will still be queueing up outside the theater for Reload and Revolutions. The philosophical side of the Matrix is interestingly based on a piece of work called Plato's Republic, in which humankind are restrained in a cave with a fire behind them. They can only see shadows of the real world projected on the wall. One of them manages to break free only to discover that the shadows they seen were only puppets being manipulated in front of the fire and when he ventures beyond the cave he finds the "real" world and sees the objects that the puppets were made to resemble. He attempts to "save" the rest of humankind but they all think he has gone crazy.
