uhm yesterday i put a (for now) textmode irc client together you can download a win32 binary and the source here

i got the winsock2.bi header from shadowwolf and extended it a little and changed some stuff. i added select (which is known as sock_select cause the keyword select is reserved) and the whole FD_SET macros as subroutines, so it's finally possible to easily do nonblocking sockets and socket multiplexing.
uhm if somebody has an easy to use gfxlib based gui lib i'd really appreciate using it. otherwise i write that myself.

k updated the crap a little, source code is now fully documented so one can mess around with it easier.
vongodric is workin on a small gui lib for that crap so the textmode shit will be replaced.
i plan to add dcc then i will stop working on it as it gets boring. the source is well structured imo so anybody can extend it easily. feel free to do so just give me some credit ( or make a donation or a shop for me poor austrian sucker hehe... i want a mac too )

let's join forces, the source is pretty explanatory so you will get easily into it, source is about 700 lines for main module (protocol stuff ), and an additional 600 lines for the helper modules

Excellent work.
I reckon textmode rocks. I love it.
Anyway, you probably won't be programming anything rivalling major IRC clients anytime soon, so why not stick with this retro niche you've found?

Some suggestions:
Colours would be awesome...as well as a sort of input to show that yes, you can type here.
You should try to have a sort of status bar along the bottom where typing is done. That way it doesn't get in the way of the server outpu text.

it still sucks and you still can only enter ips and no urls at startup to specify the server. but hey...
to compile the thing you need 0.12 and the lastest gfx lib. sorry for that inconvenience.
with this package it's also easy to build a backend yourself. just read the readme file and check the backends directory.
