Blogging

Quote:Cool. I don't have a blog-- people might be slightly worried about what I have to say  -- but reading them is always fun.

Just a question, in case I ever do get one: apparently there's a lot of blogging sites out there, are there any really good ones (feature-wise)?

Blogspot is simple... i rather fancy it ...you should write i like reading them.. especially if they arent "PC" raw expression beats sugar coating.

(Blogspot.com has the registration page at blogger.com). One thing you might make sure of is that you turn OFF the setting about having to register to post comments. Grr...

Hmm, is there a link to find it on Google? They provide (albeit bad) translations.

I've tried all the blogging services...and I've come to the conclusion that blog software that you can properly edit is the best.

I use WordPress on my site, an excellent PHP blog powered by a MySQL backend. It was a snap to install, and easy peasy to administrate. It is also really easy to edit the themes to my taste. I am at home in XHTML and CSS, so I find it easy to manipulate themes.

There is a huge backing for the software. Others I might recommend are GreyMatter and maybe b2evolution - but WordPress is definately the most feature packed yet simple blogging software I've seen.

My blog is just a stripped down version of my PHP website framework. (Stripped down = no user registration or anything like that, so templating, SQL, etc. is still in it). I know people have different tastes, etc., but I prefer custom solutions where possible especially for simple things like a blog site heh.

My blog is on a free server so I'm using Pivot. I find it pretty well featured, and doesn't use MySQL, which is a must if you are hosted freely in most cases.

I used to use a custom blog I coded in PHP -- it was real simple, flat file, and it basically did the job of just letting me type in some text and then putting a date on it.

But with WordPress (or Pivot or b2evo etc) the thing is you spend little or no time in setup, you focus completely on the content. With WordPress, there is so much you can customize as well...I am using a theme I downloaded where the dude has changed the way the blog works...basically all he is using is the actual backend of WordPress.

Pivot is also awesome, but I have had problems getting that to run, as you know nath. I guess that was a server issue, but for the moment, I am really happy with WordPress.

I run my blog on a wiki, I think that is very easy Smile

The only downside with it is that there is no rss support builtin... Sad

I run qwikiwiki (www.qwikiwiki.com)

Cheers :bounce:
