Exactly how i learned Smile

and a tip.. dont try to "make a tile based RPG" bescause it can be rather advanced for a beginner.

Start off with pac-man in textmode.. thats what i did and was my first game... then i made a tetris clone (horribly i might add)

then i planned a project and made small working portions of it.

Dont try and make a something horribly complex until you have the basc's down...
Oh dear,' says God, 'I hadn't thought of that,' and promptly vanished in a puff of logic."

Start with meaningless things, the first thing i ever made was a interview with a robot, he asked you what you liked, and said he too liked it, then what you disliked and said he too disliked it.

Learn the math engine and stuff, i made 2 maths quizzez, i then made a program that worked out the area and circumference of a circle, then i made a short text based game, then i made just a pong thing, and a thing where you had to dodge dots moving around the screen. Start simple, learn the different engines that can be used, then go into more complex things.
