Mini RPG Competition
#51
Allright, I think it's pretty clear by this point that people don't want to go by Gustav's rules for the QB Express MiniRPG compo next month.

But we're still gonna have one, since it's a great idea.

So I hereby propose new rules:
  • *Contestants have one month to make a mini-RPG (between Issue #9 of QB Express and Issue #10)

*QB or FB may be used

*May be text-based or graphical, but no text adventures / I.F. games (save those for another compo). Basically if you use text graphics, treat the letters as if they're sprites.

*You may submit as many entries as you would like (but keep in mind, they will be competing with each other)

*You're allowed to work in groups.

*Entries will be judged based on: Story, Gameplay, Graphics/Visuals, Sound/Music, and Fun Factor.

*You may use pre-made music or graphics, but if you do, you must give credit where credit is due (in your readme or in-game credits). If your music/graphics are not original, it will be taken into consideration during judging. You'll get more points for original work because it takes a lot more effort.

Sound good? Anything anyone would like to add?

I made this as open as possible, and left out all the "theme" elements that people had a problem with.

Pete thats fine. I like how it's finally just a MakeTheRPGForFcucksSake competition.

Barok, cheers for enjoying the game....has ANYONE finished it yet?

It's already dead, but I love to raise the dead.

I figure that since he's still around, I might as well throw some justified crap his way....

Gustav, you've shown on more counts than I care to remember that you were unfit to host a competition, much less take part in discussing something as important as rules.

Because music is hard for YOU to make, you suit the rules that way? If you play Opa Opa and listen to the battle music, I made that in a grand total of 15 minutes. As me to make a decent static 16x16 sprite, and it might take me 1 hour.

As for the footprints thing, thats just plain stupid. I don't know how to do that, but maybe I have a killer amazing storyline in my head and have a knack for beautiful sprites and serenading music. You going to cut me out like that.

As for your comments on Zire's game...well, I'd like to say I don't even want to touch that, but obviously I will, because me is me, and I don't want to take the fun out of life.
You know it's a sad day in your life when you get the jollies from insulting things which are like water off a ducks back in your intellectual system. Or maybe you don't. Chances are you do now.

Graphics are the most important things? Well, I honestly don't care if thats your personal opinion or not, but it's plain to see that since you're probably better at it (better is a relative term) than making a soundtrack, storyline or a fun game, you're probably going to say graphics. Then maybe I should say that graphics are the WORST thing in a game...since I've made a text adventure game...dun dun dun. Damn, that means that I made a CRAP game simply because it has no graphics, yet hopefully a high fun factor and playability.

One last thing, suppose you DO think that the graphics of some game are crap, there is a proper way to say it. "Sure, the game is excellent, but the graphics weren't really to my taste." "I wasn't too keen on the graphics." "I don't really like that style of graphics." "The graphics don't concern me." "I was more into the gameplay."

I've had my fun.

That is not flaming by the way, it's justified criticism, in my usual level of harshness.

Laters.
