very nice, i tried it earlier ;)
one suggestion, the moving speed is nice, but add some sort of delay for frame incrementation... poor pikachu looks like he's running so fast and getting nowhere ;p
overall, solid.. very nice

Oops...
Had to remove the following section of code:
Code:
IF pika.state = movement THEN
pika.feet = buttered
END IF
In hindsight, I guess those particular game states and flags were kind of silly...

Ummm...
Yeah, joking.
That's right.

Yes! I was joking! I mean no one in their right mind would have buttered feet on their Pikachu!

Well, after spending some time on the latest "beta" of the program my daughter has requested the following changes:
1. Give me a button to press that let's pikachu shock the snot out of coffing.
2. Add a second player so either "mommy or daddy" can sit and enjoy the game with me. (although I think she has the idea of the adult running interference while she cleans the pokeballs off the screen) She also requested that the second player be a pokemon other than pikachu.
I had already begun working out the "shock" attack on the enemy to knock him out for a short period of time then let him begin the chase again. If I add a two-player option I will need to incorporate a screen-lock feature that keeps both players on the current screen until both attempt to move to the next level at the same time.
Any other requests/suggestions before I begin redesigning a few routines?

 I was wondering if you was going to add a shock attack.. lol
hmm, the 2nd player could be either squrtle, charmander, or bulbasaur... thats all I can think of atm.. if that helps you narow it down from the 400 diff ones to choose from..
Sounds like cool mods non-the-less.

you might not to set a screen lock fuction but simple rewritte your engine to do split screen. haven't seen your code but if you wrote the engine with flexible code it should be a simple matter of resetting the engine display fuction to blit to half the screen then call another pass though your display code to blit to the other half of the screen with the other player as the focused object.
also have you though about making this game network multiplayer? shoudn't be hard to do with with somthing like raknet or sdl_net.
