Quote:sure go to chatrooms, or talk on IM Tongue lol

or play an MMORPG
Thanks Cha0s, but I don't go to chatrooms, and I don't know what IM or MMORPG are. I guess I'll just have to pick up these emoticons on the fly.

IM: Instant Messagers, examples are MSN, YIM, ICQ, AIM and IRC

MMORPG: Massive Multiplayer Online RPG (yes, it's a game), examples are ConquerOnline, RuneScape, AnarchyOnline, MU Online, etc (so many)

=)
Don't worry moneo, whatever you do, you learn continuously.
Would be nice if you had msn/yim/aim though... could chat a bit in free time =)

Quote:Is there a list somewhere of these emoticons? Then if someone replies to me with "4Q", for example, I can look up the meaning or an associated "face", and not think that the guy is cursing at me.

You should be an Aussie. Imagine what you Yanks and Poms sound like to us?

Yanks/Seppo's/Americans: Well hot dog would you look at that guy? He's taking the corner so sharp it makes me wanna play my saxaphone!
 Forget the meaning of it! Here's what it sounds like to us:
Wahl hart darg would ya lok at that gah? He's tekin' the carner sow shahp it makes me wanna plah mah saxaphowne!

Brits: (Quote from AB FAB) Oh Darling, it's just a windscreen washer I picked up at the traffic lights.
To us: Oh, Darlin it's jos a win'screen wosha I picked up atta traffic lights.

Kinda funny yeah?

I bet we sound like STEVE Erwin (get ya spelling right) Well, he emphasises the accent a bit, theres a massive difference between north west and south east. North west is really heavy and ladback accent (IE: Well, yeah, I got me a croc from that riva on the utha side of tha moun'n.) and the sth east is not quite as emphasised. Im from the sth east of the country.

HOWEVER! Victorian sth residents in Melbourne and Bendigo areas say a few words rediculously different to the rest of the country.
School is pronounced schewl, like posh sounding.
Same applies to pool, cool etc
New South Wales residents I think speak the best by far. South Aust. residents such as myself tend to speak slowly and deliberatly.

They say a lot of "yeah's" and "you know's" in like the deep south american drawl, but in Australian...

Am I confusing you yet?

Don't get me started on the Kiwi's.. :bounce:
