Just for clarity, my post was in response to Mitth's last post.

I'm not sure why, but I just had a feeling that GIF was lossy; you're right though... maybe I was thinking of JPEG, which I know is lossy, heh. Smile As soon as I think of GIF I think 256-colour and loss of detail... but yes, the loss of information is just an effect of reducing the bit-depth of the image, not the compression algorithm.

GIF is not a lossy format. It uses LZW as you said. And the patent just went out. And really, there's no reason why you'd want to use anything other then bmp, becuase once loaded in memory it's will be the same size wether you use jpeg, png, gif, bmp or whatever. It's only on the harddrive that the size is different. And who has a sub 30 gb drive nowdays? Only matters when you're transfering it on the net. And when you're doing that you most like have packed it with rar or zip. And that gives higher compression on a raw image then png.
oship me and i will give you lots of guurrls and beeea
