The stars for some reason (I don't know why) aren't very convincing... I guess they just look like white dots. But that planet! Wow, amazing!

Overall very nice.

Thanks!

Sterling, I agree, the stars arent really realistic, I need to learn more about them I guess Smile

(a hell of a lot of time went into the planet, and its annoying because there is a lot more detail than is actually visible in the picture.)

looks verrry cool man.

only suggestion i would make concerning the starts, is make less of them. like the saturation of stars from that top bright light up is perfect. but near the bottom there seems to be too many.

otherwise, brilliant, the planet is spectacular =)

I personally think the planet is very well done.

People have a misconception that space is all black and white for stars.

This is not true, there is space dust everywhere. Pick a nice dark bunch of blue shades and use the airbrush and add some texture to the sky.

Go easy on the stars. Have different brightnesses of stars.

The lens flare looks too Photoshop...try giving it a half-pixel radius gaussian blur, or maybe ditch it...

Awesome first attempt.

To Dark_prevail:

I will 100% agree with AetherFox himself regarding the design of the planet there, as that large globe itself sure has pure awesomeness written all over it to me, you know that now? Big Grin=b !

As for your first attempt overall: hey, if this is your way of learning, I’d say that you — without even a doubt at all — are boldly a truly so precious Picasso of outer-space artwork, PERIOD. Wink

EXCELLENT WORK, my man, and you just keep this stuff up!! :king: Chao for now!!!

Thanks, Aetherfox, you are totally right about the misconception of stars. From earth, we can see only a limited amount of stars, due to light pollution and the atmosphere. Out in space, you can see millions more stars then you could imagine. In fact, even just being out away from towns and cities allows you to see a lot more stars, and adds texture to the night sky.

Thanks for the crit and comments, people!

I'm just about to start work on just a digital painting on stars...I'll be sure to post it here and show you how I did it.

I found 15 minutes and made this really quickly:

While it isn't perfect (the stars are pretty naff, you can see blocks of them everywhere), the idea of this was to show the texture and stuff that you see in space.
