when i try and compile anything i get
ld.exe: cannot find -lmsvcrt
EVEN MEN OF STEEL RUST.

I had to make some minor changes to make install.bat work, to do with paths. But to get all the libs to compress down to a respectable size, v1c has compressed them into this program that install.bat spawns, otherwise it would be much bigger than 3.5mb.

Actually, a re-compressed (ZIP) of the fully installed and working FreeBASIC comes to 5,116 KB. Is the savings of just 1.5 MB worth the extra confusion? Or is there some other reason (lisence, etc.) that requires this new install.bat that I have missed?

Well, as I remember correctly, the version before this was ~1 meg, which means it more than tripled in size.

But as a broadbad user, yes, I feel that without the install.bat it would have been better, but still, it's not that big a deal.

Well, I don't know what system you're using but on Win32 the ZIP uncompresses to 232 files at 9,877KB.
