Make MIDIs sound different.

I noticed that while playing QB Games, that the midi plays fine, but it sounds different and much more retarded than it did on another computer, is there a way to make it sound how it should?

You'll have to install the same synth on the computers like FF7 PC did.

You've probably got a PCI sound card without a true FM synth chip, and I'm guessing the computer the music sounded less "retarded" on had one.

The problem is that cards without an FM synth chip (virtually all recent sound cards) will try to emulate the sound by picking a sound from their MIDI wavetable. Unfourtunately, it sounds really bad most of the time.

However, there is a solution. If the game uses QMIDI, load SBMIDI.EXE with the /3 switch. This will play the MIDI file via MPU-401, which selects the wavetable sounds directly rather than having the card emulate the FM synth with the wavetable.
