how big an array can FB hold

Sorry if this has been asked before but how big an array can FB hold, because for a game i am making i plan to have one large array holding all the different maps (n00bish i know, but still...), and am wondering how many maps i could make in screen 18, the maps are 40 by 40 each.

According to the FB readme.txt, the maximal size of an array is 2 GB

Wouldnt it be 4GB of memory?

2GB, array indexes can be negative in BASIC.
