I'm tryng to setup a wired home network between two W2000 computers.
The problem i have is in Network neighborod both see a single computer: the same one. One sees itself and the other sees the first one. Pings work in both ways.
What can be wrong?

Are they in the same workgroup? To check right-click on My Computer (on the desktop) and check the different tabs till you find the workgroup name (the tab is named "Computer Name" in XP, not sure what it is in 2k).
Also, there's something about, or used to be something about, windows using the IPX protocol (and not TCP/IP) for the windows-to-windows stuff, but that might have changed. Could also be that it was NetBIOS... cant remember... someone else should take over here

Try going to start->search and search for computers and see what turns up. That works even when the regular way doesnt. Im quite sure that uses the IPX protocol tho.
