Qbasicnews suggestions
#1
Alright, by the looks of the personal attacks thread, everyone has some opinions on some things they'd like to see.  Here's where you can suggest ideas on what you think you'd like to see here and we'll look and see.

Remember, suggesting doesn't mean it's going to happen, but it's going to let us know what's on your mind.

I guess there are a lot less suggestions than there were.

I don't think any big changes are needed...well, perhaps a Toast (or Roast or whatver it may be called) forum should be good where are threads that "gets carried away" could be put. That might decrease the moderating also...if u see a topic in (whatever) forum that's gets to hostile/hot/evil/vulgar/creamy then just move it to the roast/toast (or whatever it's called) forum and the "battle" can continue there...

I've never felt that the QbasicNews staff has "run this show" in a bad way...I've just seen members that has been acting bad...

Good luck SumoJo!

first off, this post was a nice initiative, way to go right at the problem, instead of beating around the bush.

what i can suggest is just try to make sure theres enough mods to deal with problem threads like... within an hour id say.

that whole 'how do i make a keylogger' thing is still very fresh in my mind. i mean, what if more and more people started posting crap like that? i think you just need to be in a position to deal with things quickly. if that means more people (which it looks like youre already doing from the old people topic) then im for that.

thats all, peace

p.s. thanks for listening and setting up a 'forum' in which people can voice their concerns. thats the only mistake i could see with qbn leadership in the past (more than once) is that people that had concerns didnt get a voice to be heard until they resorted to ... you know. thx again and good luck

Agreed with chaOs here. this is an excellent initiative. I've posted a indirect suggestion on another thread but I'll make the suggestion official here :-).

I guess you have to ask yourself what's the new reality of the members here. What are they doing today? And how can QBasicNews can be of help to what it is they are doing. As Such, I would suggest the following (added to what's there already under FreeBasic):

FREEBASIC FORUM THREADS
FreeBasic Learning Help
Beginners, ask your questions here.

FreeBasic libgfx specifics
Any questions about using libgfx basic functionality can be asked here.

FreeBasic SDL help
How to's, Tips and Tricks, Questions and Answers about SDL in FreeBasic

FreeBasic OpenGL help
How to's, Tips and Tricks, Questions and Answers about OpenGL in FreeBasic

FreeBasic MIDI and Digital Audio Help
Where anything sound and music related can be talked about and helped.

FreeBasic Game Development Help
Want to know how to do AI, create maps and the likes? This is where you can ask away.

FreeBasic Application Development Help
If you're making an application, tool or utility, this is where you can talk about it, ask questions, polls and the likes.

Of course these are jsut suggestions. But seeing where the community is today, what everyone is doing (using FreeBasic for the big majority lol) and what's up ahead in the future, I think a FreeBasic specific Categorie is warranted and these sub categories wouldn't be a half bad way to organize things :-). I think with these added it would help newcomers or anyone with a specific question locate the answer a bit quicker this way.

EDIT: ok I'll admit that the Application Development sub category is for me first ;-). lol
hen they say it can't be done, THAT's when they call me ;-).

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

As for adding of new subforums, our Freebasic forums aren't popular enough to warrant that right now. If the forum's traffic picked up and contained many of these threads that would be an excellent possibilty.

I disagree! Don't add that many forums! All it does is make the site confusing and difficult to navigate. There aren't enough posts there to warrant all of those divisions... it would just lead to a lot of empty forums.

I'm of the opinion that the fewer forums you have, the better. Add new forums only as they're needed (like when Wildcard added the FB forums when the number of responses to the FB threads was getting too difficult to handle).
