Another would be to record light intensity from a "twinkling star". You can also attach a resistor to an analog-to-digital converter and amplify the voltage across the resistor.

really bad philosphers. You've obviously decided not to wait. You could make that statement about *any* random process. Randomness, by definition, means that any pattern that might theoretically exist isn't evident, i.e., it can't be seen. (If it isn't evident, we don't worry about it.)

so get one and succumb to the pressure.. Hook it up to a fireplace view or something random. Then create some routine to access it from Dos. (but how does dos access stuff that it doesn't know exists?) Then get an rnd generator based on some spot in the fireplace. Take the redness amount and get a location from it. convert to a random number between 0 and 1 and convert to a screen coordinate. Check that one. Do it again, and again, and again. Pure Random l33tness.

output into your computer's microphone jack and then read the audio data from the file you save after doing that? (Well, you couldn't do it with my computer. The microphone port has never worked.)

That's a good idea.
However, for both yourn and mine ideas, I wouldn't want to keep the TV turned on to channel 97 (the local channel guide // crapola network television) to get random numbers. (but then again, there is NOTHING ON TV 97% of the time!!)
BUT, I know that there is a website where people can hook up their own websites to and get their random data!!! It's cool. You can prolly find it on google.com.

channel that's actually being broadcast on. That kind of signal generally isn't very random...well, unless you're listening to Fox news...or Bush is talking...or someone employed in Congress.
