A few compiler questions
#1
I recently found some books on programming however i do not own any of the compilers that the books are about. I was wondering were i could get the compilers and how much they would cost. The compilers that they talk about are: Visual Basic 4, Access 2, and C Primer Plus.

VB 4 is no longer sold, as far as I know, but a man down the street told me you could get it here.

Access is not a compiler; it is a database program from Microsoft. You almost certainly can't get Access 2 (!!?!?) anymore but you could buy the latest version from Microsoft. I have never heard of C Primer Plus - perhaps it's a book, not a compiler? Smile

sorry your right i was looking at the title of the book not what it was about. C++ is the other one.
i looked and found vb4 at that site you showed me and downloaded it (28.5 megs ouch on a internet that transfers at 2kbs). i probly should have asked what exactly it did.

Get GCC for C/C++ programming:
www.bloodshed.net (Dev-C++ IDE and GCC)
www.mingw.org (Just GCC)
www.cygwin.com (GCC & Unix/Linux tools)

Don't use Access, MySQL is better (tutorials are online)

Except that Access has VBA... Wink

Access && VBA = not open-source
MySQL && GCC = open-source

It's all a matter of preference, like how much code you want to use, how much you want to understand software, et cetera.

To put it simply, if you hate Microsoft, use open-source. Otherwise, feel free to choose the one you think is the easiest.
