How long have you been programming in QB?
#21
Depends on what you mean by "programming".

I started using QB in 1996 or 1997, so that would make it 8+ years.

But I also stopped using QB in about 2000, and haven't really programmed anything in it since.

I'm much more interested in web programming, and other stuff like animation, writing and filmmaking now... So why do I do QB Express and run my website if I don't actually code in QB? Damn good question -- I haven't the slightest idea myself. Smile

As for FB -- I've messed around with it on a several occasions, but I haven't made anything significant. I'm probably not going to release anything I code in it unless I happen to buckle down and make something *really* good.

To jakeman921:

Welcome, and such an *absolute* pleasure to meet you, man!! Cool=b

Apparently, I have first started QB around 1992 as of far, and began to develop some programs using a 25mhz 386-based Laser computer system. And also, that was where my fiery passion for developing games really began, you know that? (^-^)v !

So in essence, I have been working with QuickBASIC/QBasic for around 13 years now, jakeman921!! And ever since I have been using the newer FreeBASIC (since v0.11b), I have been using QB as practice for some dead-serious coding in FB, especially for Frantic Journey and others!! Big Grin !

Hey, real seriously interesting topic here, and be seeing you again. Thank you!!! :bounce:

Wow!!!
RPGFAN:

Actually, Basic was developed at Dartmouth College in 1964. It was somewhat similar to Fortran which already existed, but Basic was a lot more friendly and simple.

Basic soon became very popular. Implementations of the language began to pop up all over the place. Of those I saw in the late 1960's, were the Basic in General Electric's Time Sharing System, and DataBasic which was a Basic that accessed one of the first Data Base Management Systems called IDS (later IDMS).

By the 1970's and early 1980's many "son's of Basic" existed, like:
* BusinessBasic for the BASIC IV computer.
* Structured Basic for the Cromemco computer.
* PickBasic for Unix machines running a multi-valued database.
* Basic for many microprocessor based computers (before the PC) like the TRS-80, several HP machines, SDS (Scientific Data Systems), etc.
* DBase for the PC.
* BusinessBasic for the NCR Tower mini-computer.
* IBM's version of Basic for the PC.
* Microsoft's GWBasic for the PC.
* Other PC manufacturer's version of Basic.
* Microsoft's BASCOM, compiler for Basic.
* Microsoft QuickBasic, Qbasic, and PDS.

And mind you, these are only the one's that I personally saw. :o

There's a saying is Spanish:
"Mas sabe el diablo por viejo que por diablo".

I hope this doesn't suffer in the translation to English, but:
"The devil knows more for being old than for being a devil."
