A word of advice to anyone who owns a forum: don't use the word "General" in any of your forum names, as these are the target for many of the current spambots. Also, some deliberately enter forums with the ID of 1 in order to spread their crap.

Indeed the General Programming forum had for some reason been opened wide. Since no one told me anything about it, and seing as there's no sound reason to have it like so, I put it back the way it was.

I was reading a while ago about all the holes in phpBB, maybe this bot auto hacked the forum? On the page i was reading they were recomending as normal keeping on top of the patches, but also changing the 'Powered by phpBB x.x' , to not show a version, as this was one of the things the bots do, looking for specific versions they know how to break.
