nah, I actually wanted to know. to see whether it was worth giving the source because if they can't use the bmp, it loses its point...

Yeah, same thing.
Windows BMPs, GIFs, PNGs, and lots of other obscure formats. In fact I'm pretty sure Linux distros come with support for far more image formats than Windows does.
Anyway, BMPs are definitely not a problem.
