MY OS!!!!help me with installing and kernal and stuff...

hay, im makin this os and i need to know how to get stuff so that i can run it on the computer without running it over windows. IF U COULD HELP ID SAY YAY!!!

sure, first look up the .exe file type, and figure out how everythings stored. once you do that, ask some more

I think the file format is not the biggest problem. Exe files call dos interrupts and they don't exist if you don't run dos/win... So give up. You won't succeed in writing an OS. There are so many points you have to mind. You'll need a FAT file system and so on and you have to program all the things using ASM. Horrible. Or you could try using FreeDOS.

Well you want to get it to run without windows or DOS right?
You could get Linux =P



But then you aren't making an OS. Making and OS is pretty tough. OS means Operating System. It operates everything in the computer (that the BIOS doesn't). It'd take many many long sessions of research. Maybe a few classes will help.


QB can't do it. If you want to make a fakeOS or a GUI go straight ahead. It'd never be an OS.

i know 'exe' isnt the biggest problem but if exe files are over your head, you might as well stop there XD thats the point i was trying to illustrate ;P

I have freedos. I guess i could try using that.
