string length question
#11
wasn't it QB 1.2? I used that for a while... it sux.

But why doesn't the IDE use its own segment? That seems like a "duh" kind of a thing that the authors should have thought about during planning...

I think it went from "Microsoft Compiled Basic" to QuickBasic 2 (at which point the first version cleverly got the de facto name QuickBasic 1).

I liked spam better when it was something that came in a can.
Windows should be defenestrated.

I think the counter-quote I remember posted here was

Quote:64K should be enough for everyone!
Peace cannot be obtained without war. Why? If there is already peace, it is unnecessary for war. If there is no peace, there is already war."

Didn't Bill Gates or somebody once say something to that effect?

And why do people buy RAM the size of hard disks a few years ago? Wink

MS-DOS QBasic Version 1.1 is the one I used... it's from the Win95 CD.

Glenn insists in the difference between QB aka QuickBasic and QBasic. And he's right.

I don't know if I understand string usage very well, but this is what I've been led to believe.

Ex: A$ = A$ + "j"

I think when QB adds strings together like that, there has to be enough memory available for the original strings *plus* the new string to be made. All of this has to fit in the memory space or the 'Out of String Space' error will happen. Only after the new string is succesfully made will the older string be deallocated.
