problems with Win '98 setup on old pc...
#1
I'm trying to install windows 98 se on my friend's pc. I've installed it directly from the CD on several computers before, but this one says the setup program is too big to fit into memory. Can't use a floppy because it's fried. Is there any way around this? It has 64mb ram, which should be way more than enough.

maybe try copying the files from the cd to the hard drive?

I haven't tried that because it's reporting the error about memory. Unless anyone else has a better idea, I'll try it. I feel like an idiot.

i copy the data all the time. Surprisingly, copying the data then installing from the HD is faster than installing directly from the cd.

Thats because you are copying the compressed files over in one lump, then extracting them from hdd, which is faster than decompressing each little file from CD.

I wish some companies would use more pak files instead of 3 billion 2kb files. That gets me annoyed.
