Show some bad ass code, and Chaos, Z!re and anyone else who seems abrasive, will stop the behavior almost immediately. I guarantee it. That's just the way it works man. Once in a while, someone will start coming around here, posting about how they are going to make the newest and greatest game, or how they invented a totally new game concept. When in all actuality, the person posting all this stuff knows zilch about computer programming. You can't help them for being reprehensive. Just post a tech demo or something to show that you know what you're talking about. Wink

Quote:stylin, the desighn i have planned is on my post when i started the topic. The desighn deadline im thinking about finishing dec.23. Playable demo will be most likely finished somwere in january. Alpha is planned to be soon after the demo. Like alpha would be 1 week after demo. Beta will be released close to the end of febuary. Finished product will be released before april. The team i am still posting. I have posted this game topic in 3 different forums.
2 months for a beta release, 3-4 months for finished product. That's a little tougher of a schedule than I really have the time/patience/sanity for. For the amount of work that would be required to meet those deadlines, most programmers I know would want full-time wages at the very least, especially for a side-project. I personally would not touch it for anything less than $5,500, not including a percentage of total sales.

Don't take this the wrong way, but you have unrealistic goals, probably brought about by misinformation and/or a misunderstanding of the design process as a whole. There are plenty of websites you can go to for professional advice about your project, including (but not limited to):

http://www.gamasutra.com
http://www.gamedev.net

I encourage you to check those sites out; there, you will find guidance that will help you

1. learn what it takes to design, create, market and distribute your game
2. learn what kinds of things you need to have to realise a game idea into a full-fledge indie venture
3. learn the best ways to present your idea, recruit team members and manage a small-scale project

among many other necessary tools to help you along the way. Again, I regret that I cannot take part in your project, but I wish you the best of luck. Don't let certain people discourage you, but realise - at least from what you've shown here - that you have a long way to go into turning your idea into a reality.

Words of wisdom from Stylin :-).

Maybe this could be a start to your design document which might give you a better understanding of the game project. Like Stylin said, don't be discouraged, the idea of you project is actually quite good. But it's important to start at the beginning.

I have written a 6 part professional development series of articles that take a typical project and goes down the development process. This might give you a few clues of what exactly you are getting yourself into.

COMMERCIAL AND PROFESSIONAL APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT

Part One - The Project Begins
http://www.adaworld.com/textworld/articl...ment1.html

Part Two - The Details Behind The Problem
http://www.adaworld.com/textworld/articl...ment2.html

Part Three - The Conceptualization Process
http://www.adaworld.com/textworld/articl...ment3.html

Part Four - From Conceptualization To Application
http://www.adaworld.com/textworld/articl...ment4.html

Part Five - Testing And Debugging
http://www.adaworld.com/textworld/articl...ment5.html

Part Six - Installation and Integration
http://www.adaworld.com/textworld/articl...ment6.html

Sure it's a bit of reading, but I think it will help you understand what exactly is going on. I'd like to see a project like yours realized and playable. But it's not quite as simple as creating models and throwing them in a loop. you'd need to take each object of your game (ball, player, scoreboard, etc etc) and detail each of them what they can do, how they can be described, how they interact with each other team members, opposite team members, how the other objects interact with your main player, etc etc...alot of detail to think about :-). then when you program these,
you'll have to think about even more things than this. It might be a good idea to sit down with a word processor and and define exactly what your game is about.

I wish you luck as well and I hope this helped a bit.
hen they say it can't be done, THAT's when they call me ;-).

Er isn't it "Idiot"?

If that first post is your design... You aren't going to get anythign done. You won't even get a 2D ascii version of the game done (if you know what I mean =/)

Do you know how hard 3D programming is? ME NIETHER I've never tried. Patially because I don't know what to do because I'm not at that level of math yet. So I can't say anything about that =p

But I have done network programming. It's confusing as hell for a newbie. =p

From the way you're describing it, it looks like you aren't going to be doing anything... hrm... that's... odd?

Just two more things...
1) Your comebacks suck.
2) Dr_D is right. We've yet to see you do anything. You come here and expect us to do anything you ask. We have lives, just so you know. Some of us are married and have kids. Some of us are in college and some of us are still in highschool. What about you? What the heck are you doing? Some people come here and say their 20 but they sound like 13. I'm 15 and I sound like whatever I want to sound like =p. From what you sound like I think you're an immature 17 year old who thinks posting in some mutilated English language is cool. Come on how is shortening "you" to "u" cool? It's TWO more letters. You can shift you right hand up and left one and type it at the same speed of "u".

"brouse"? er... Browse?
I don't understand how people can even program if they can't even remember a language that you'll probably use a lot more.

You don't know what you are talking about or else you'd have a detailed design and maybe even money to pay for help. Maybe if this was a small scale project (like is should be) people would help. But that'd involve you doing... almost everything. There are some modelers around here that I'm sure would be willing to help you. (well maybe not -you-. You pretty much screwed yourself)

But no, you come to a programming forum -as- a modeler and without any hint of programming. (congrats you've read half my post) When I came to this forum I was scared to post because I'd be afraid of being judged. Want to know what my first post was about? DATA statments. I didn't understand how they worked and why they ran out of data.

Piptol helped with his amusing.. dead people.

Long ago.. you came with legitimate questions:
http://forum.qbasicnews.com/viewtopic.php?p=73620
then you disappear and come back with some more questions... then you disappear for a bit more and come back.. not with questions.. but as someone looking for quick points. You won't learn anythign from having other people do all your work. Why don't you do any?

Why did you expect anyone to work for you and you not do a single thing? Especially without pay. I'm sorry (not really) but cha0s has the right to call you a retard.. I'm not saying you are. but he has the right. He's been here way longer than you and has produced things that will wow you. Let's just say if he is actually an idiot.. you'd be a dead turtle. or a rock. You're choice.

It's like this...
let's say there's a nice graph of.. inteligence. >_>
0-100.
Now we put some marks in there...
0=clinically dead
10=selfawareness
20=walking
30=complex speech
40=writing and basic math
45=normal activities
50=typing
60=basic programing
70=advanced programing
90=You could do whatever you wanted..
100=a god? who knows =p

Now, of course, this is completely wrong. but it works for what I'm doing. =p
But you'd be like... 55 or something
Cha0s... >70...
that's a ratio of 55:70.. or 11:14..
so if he was an idiot.. let's say 42. then you'd be 33... hrm =/

I recommend you read what Mystic and Stylin gave you. Then maybe you could realize that we aren't idiots and that you have unrealistic goals... I'm sure we'd stop bugging you if you just admitted that you want the improbably. The next to impossible improbable

Well. Good luck on the project. Can't wait to play it! =) Maybe you know.. release it under GPL with source and make sure it works on Linux *nudge*

Umm...I don't think I'd be calling cha0s an idiot. He's very well-respected around here, has one of the top FB projects in development right now, and could likely kick your ass.
