Any idea what happened here?

Norton caught and stopped a trojan earlier today, so I started a scan to make sure it didnt make its way through. The scan froze up after a while and when I went back to the main menu I got this.

I'll uninstall and reinstall but, I was wondering if anyone ever saw a message like that . . . "Tampered"

It means the virus blocked the scan, and norton cant do shit about it..

Woah, never seen that before.

What trogan was it? If that were my computer I'd see if some other scanning software can remove it, otherwise I'd backup my stuff, format, and reinstall.

I googled and found two other people who had the same problem, but they each seemed to dismiss it as a bug:

It looks like it's possible to turn that feature off and use PestPatrol instead to detect NAV tampering. According to the software section of Columbia University's site ("Compatibility with PestPatrol" at the bottom).

Well I havent noticed any problems and am in the process of doing several scans to check my system, so far nothing has turned up. But yeah I prolly will reformat, I need it anyway, but I can't do that until I get another hard drive unless I want to spend a solid week burning cds. my c:\ is 160gb d:\ is 160gb and e:\ is 250gb all of which are nearly full. All of my important stuff is on my laptop though which I rarely even connect to the internet, so I am not too worried yet

Thanks for the reply though =)

My virus scanner got "tampered" with a while back by a new virus, it sucked ass. You can remove the virus yourself and then perform a repair install with Norton.

Of course, I dont know the specifics of what virus it is, or how to remove it. You could try checking processes, espcially when the computer first starts up.
