FB installing

I find FreeBasic a brilliant piece of software, but I am baffled as to why Version 0.14 Beta: when installed needs to contain over 1500 files amounting to some 88 Mb, all massive compared to QuickBasic.

Are all these files always needed, or are many only required for special purposes.

First of all...use 0.15. 0.14 is old and outdated.

Second of all...wtf are you talking about? I've never seen that many files, and I've used FB since its first release.

Yeah, my install has about 650 files amounting to ~22mb.

Get .15, backup your bas and related project files, delete the freebasic folder and install .15, it will be nice and fresh, then just reinstate your project files again.

of course 650 is still a lot.

There are a lot of example programs for a start, 257 files in fact. You can delete the "examples" folder if you wish, there is no important data there.

The rest are libraries and wrappers. Freebasic has access to a wide range of libs, such as fmod, bass, freeimage, tinyptc, etc. These all need .bi and .a files.

Thats what makes it all up!

If you are not using the windows API or any external library you may be interested in my FBLite package.
It has no headers or wrappers so it fits in a single floppy.

During the install process, FB creates a lot of files, as it "compiles"/unpacks the library files, *.def or whatever..
As they're removed once done with it's hard to keep track, but a few thousand atleast.. is my bet..
Most I could see in the folder was around 800, for the 0.14 install

I cannot really complain in these days of multi gig Drives, even though I still manage on a 40 Gig drive.

I installed 0.15 and FBIDE on 1/1/06, and have 1598 files for a total of 53.5 MB.
