I've seen professional games with 'the grid effect' so i'm personally not that bothered about it...
BTW someone fixed the key for me:

You do get better as you practice, but an excellent technique to making grass is to start with a couple simple blades. Copy it. Use PP256's scrolling effect to scroll the tile left/right/up/down or wherever you want. Paste the blades ontop of each other (make sure transparency is on). Repeat this until you are satisfied. It beats doing it one pixel at a time, and most of the time it looks better. That is if you are using PP256. If not, the technique still remains the same. You just have to find another way of doing it.
Read this article:

Halfway down the article it talks about trees. It reveals an excellent technique for creating a good looking tree. I use it all the time. I also use this same technique to make grass too, as I just described above.
Also, it wouldn't hurt to read all of the tutorials here:
http://petesqbsite.com/sections/tutorials/tuts/tsugumo. I found them very useful. I've failed to find any better resource on the web for pixel artist.

those are quite nice. but the first and second one look like isometric sprites and the third and fourth sprites look like sidescroller sprites....^^
here are some tiles i made for an old rpg project. i don't need them anymore, so if you like them you can use them.
cheers
