I ported the ol' degif6 to fb when it came out (I think it was version 6 or 7 :lolSmile. It's a rather small file and works OK. I'll take a look for it when I get home.

I just wanted to say there is still controversy over LZW. heres a bit from a GNU statement on it, and i have read in arguments about this before that in some parts of the world it actually goes through to 2020+ although i can't find a reliable source for this at the moment.

Quote:the latest expiration date seems to be Friday 11 August 2006 1. Until then, anyone who releases a free program for making GIF files is likely to be sued. We don't know any reason to think that the patent owners would lose these lawsuits.

V 6 or 7 ? You will have to work it a little if you want to compile it again with 0.15 Big Grin

Yeah, and IBM has an LZW patent too, but Unisys was the only company to try and score royalties from little developers. With the patent null in the US, Canada, and Japan, Unisys will never try and demand royalties again. The last time they ever did was nearly 7 years ago.

Hell, it's more dangerous to use JPEG than GIF, Fogent's still out there suing people. But yeah, I guess if you're really namby pamby about formats you wouldn't use either.
