i think making something like deviantart, only more centered around our community, would be a lot of fun. i was wanting to make something like that when i made http://www.dev9.net but i mostly just use that for personal projects.

I'm a huge fan of Drupal and believe it would totally be able to do something like this. It's a great, solid, open source CMS that is extremely easy to develop modules for. 8)

Perhaps in the future... it would require a server w/ PHP/MySQL, tho, and my WinXP machine w/ the latest WAMP server just won't cut it.

I'm certainly interested in the idea, tho...

Quote:Chaotic: Have you considered not becoming a game making slave?

If you're well-educated, there's no reason you can't make a pile of money. Why not use that pile of money to follow your dreams and possibly make an even bigger pile of money with which you can make even more of your dreams come true?

Most people will agree that the games industry is massively underpaid, overworked, and forced at every turn to have their designs butchered by marketing. If you self-fund, you can make the game you actually want to make; hire the people you actually want to work on it, and create the experience you actually want to see come to life.

Ideally, that's exactly what I'd do - My ideal situation is to be self employed and make shareware games on my own or with a small team (like Spiderweb Software or Introversion), but that probably won't be possible until I've got some cash to fall back on. Unfortunately, I don't think I could tolerate working in one of those "pile of money" jobs you mentioned for more than a few months. I did an internship as a Risk Analysist last summer, and it almost killed me. I'd come home in the evenings too exausted to make dinner, never mind code.

So I guess it's a straight choice - I'm at a point where I have to decide if this game making thing is going to be a hobby that never goes anywhere, or a profession, and I'd rather it be a profession. I just hope things aren't as bleak as you make out Sad

Here's one worth highlighting : Quests of Sorsburg, my first real attempt at an RPG. It doesn't compile, but I've uploaded the source code so you can do that yourself if you feel up to it. This is the first time I've released it in any form.

Looks extremely cool. I don't have any plans for the night yet, so maybe making this compile will become one of them!

Tales of Utopia

I haven't really posted the non-qb projects here, but they're all at the main site, http://www.distractionware.com

I hope someone got something out of all this!

18 days until my first exam (audible sigh)

Heh, crap indeed - I'd figured this thread would have fallen deep into the second or third page at this stage...

I had to move my site when I finished college, so I'm taking the opertunity to remake it. All the old stuff is actually still at my college webspace for the time being though, at:

http://www.maths.tcd.ie/~terry/wp-content/oldgames/

There are a few that aren't in that directory, but I'm putting together a proper project site at the moment, so they should all be back in a week or two.

[Edit] If you liked the Hunt, get a GBA emulator and check this out -

http://www.maths.tcd.ie/~terry/wp-content/17feb06/

I went through a GBA coding phase for a few weeks earlier this year Smile
