I picked this game up a few days ago and have been playing it pretty much non-stop since then, ignoring my work.
Finally beat it last night. If you're into the MK series, then pick this game up if you haven't yet...it's really fun and even Rhiannon played it.

I'm a huge fan of MK, despite what anyone says about its gameplay and characters, but Shaolin Monks didn't manage to hold my attention very well. It seemed like it tried to take all of the subtle things from the first Mortal Kombat games and shove them in your face, rather than make clever little references to them. Liu Kang shouting "Look! Something by the moon...", has got to be one of the most atrocious f*cking things ever.
And besides that, the gameplay really wasn't great enough to let the game stand on its own two feet. Directional combat has been a "new thing" about twelve times now, and loses its impact each time. Plus, the multiplayer only had a few of what should have been a much larger roster of characters, and though it practically begged to be played with four players, it's only two.
The game was a nice try, and I really looked forward to playing it at first, but... no.

Well, I guess it's not for everyone.
I've played thru with both Liu Kang and Kung Lao, about halfway thru with Sub-Zero and to the end with Scorpion but can't beat the final boss with him (only tried once though...I'll prolly try again today after I'm done working).
