Led Zeppelin is classic. Good stuff indeed.

Nope. He means dynamics compression. Nowadays there's too much studio engineering and all the song tends to sound loud, even the "quiet parts" are synthetically boosted to fill everything.

In classic rock (as in classic music), dynamics were an important part of the composition itself. The only modern band I've listen to which used to play nicely with dynamics was the early Smashing Pumpkins (specially on the records "Gish" and "Siamese Dream"). You get extremely loud parts, and extremely quiet and mellow sections. If you enter with a loud, distorted chorus right after a nice mellow bridge, you can pump out the listener's heart! Big Grin That's ROCK!

Couldn't have put it better myself.

Although, I still think that there are several modern rock n roll bands that produce well produced music. Powderfinger, John Butler Trio, Pearl Jam (kinda...) etc.

Pumpkins rocked it. Other modern bands that used dynamics well are older Tool, Helmet, older Deftones and of course Sublime. Smile

I liked it. Anyway, the non-officially published live work (specially the acoustic one) is way better than the record Mary Star of the Sea.

I also loved Corgan solo. Those acoustic performances in the church and the TheFutureEmbrace record are awesome.
