A couple experimental pieces
#1
(Yay for copy-pasting! Confusedtar: )

It's sound. That's about all I can (and want to) describe it as. Smile
The idea is to have every sound and instrument hiding behind eachother; nothing stands out, hardly anything comes forward in the mix, it's all just a muddy coctail of sound. Usually this would hardly be desirable, but in this case it's definately what I'm going for.

There are two songs here, both very unfinished (both length-wise and in terms of layering), but they should give you an idea of what I'm trying to get this to sound like. These are alot more 'musical' than most of the ideas I have in mind-- They have an audible beat and some (if very subtle) instrumentation. Lots of the ideas or unfinished songs I have are quite ambient.

Anyway, here are the links:

Intended to be mildly repetative and droning. No loops, all single samples (except a couple of barely audible noise loops I made myself) strung together using Modplug Tracker. Produced with Cool Edit Pro 2.0 and iZotope Ozone 3.

I still have lots to layer over it; random recordings made whenever I hear something interesting layered in the background, barely audible conversations, etc. At the moment I have about 30-60 layers of samples, and still lots more to go over the mixdowns. I'm basically trying to get these to sound as ambient as possible while still retaining a vague rhythm.

Aaaah - Izotope Ozone Big Grin How could I live before I found you?

Pretty interest concept. Make those sounds play rythmically and you'll have enrooted, true ambient music.

You should listen to Brian Eno. You'll like that stuff.

Yep, Ozone is a godsend. 8) Thanks for reccomending it way back.
Anyway, two more pieces...

This song is called 'Nothing To Stand' -- I can't stand it. (well, that's not true. I couldn't stand it while making it)

I just finished working on it, after far too much random recorded conversations with myself to throw in the background and even more obsessive tweaking of volume.

And another one... This song I've had finished for quite awhile now, but only just now got around to mastering it. It's called 'A Perfect Island.'

Also... Brian Eno-- I've heard that name somewhere before... I'll check it out.

He invented Ambient music and many other things. He was one of the first ones to play with tape loops and samples in the early seventies. He became part of Roxy Music and he stood after the mixing table playing with effects.

Also worked with David Bowie in records Low, "Heroes", Lodger and 1.Outside!. There're awesome pieces of ambiental music mixed in or standalone. Worth the listen.
