Hello!
#1
Hi, I'm Peter, a Geographer from New York.

I'm not a professional programmer, but I do have to write code in my day to day work, as well as for my reseach. I work mostly in C, but also have to do work in C++, Java, and on the odd occasion Smalltalk or LISP.

I started to code way back when you had to use one letter variable names in BASIC. So when I discovered Freebasic a few days ago I thought it a great thing. I have a few ideas for projects I want to try with it and we'll see if I ever get the time to work with them.

You may or may not see a few toy programs from me in the next few weeks as I get my bearings back with basic. Please have mercy! Tongue

You're a Geographer? I'd love to see some geographic simulation programs written in BASIC, using real physics and everything ^_~;;

I don't know the very details of what you study, but please share your knowledge with us, unless you'd rather code completely useless stuff with no other purpose than entertainment. That's cool too Tongue

Real Physics!
*Faints*

Actually I study how transport systems affect the areas they travel through. Most of the code I write is DB stuff or is related to Arcview or Autocad. What I do with basic, I'll let you know when I figure that out :wink:

Well then build us a darn model of a transport system, soft, easilly breakable land, and how it effects the virtual area it travels through. I don't know, like the land spirits being crushed when the train's too heavy for the cave below. Thus, the RPG begins.

I'm not sure how much DB stuff has been done with FB. It can probably do it, but no one's really tried except maybe Cha0s and a few other people. Something about MySQL >_>

It would be very possible using the mySQL libraries included with Freebasic

Hi Peter, nice to have you around.

FB is indeed a nice language, comfortable and fairly relaxing even!

Hope to see anything you make :)
