has anyone played Prey?

They have portals... you can't put them whereever you want, but they have them. Portals make for some effing weird gameplay Smile

One night I had a dream where I was breaking balls. The next morning, BALLSBREAKER was born.

BALLSBREAKER 2
~-_-Status Report-_-~
Engine: 94%
Graphics: 95%
Sound: 100%
A Severe Error has crippled BB2 for the time being... I have to figure it out, but until then you won't see much of it Sad.

Yeah I made a small vid with the prey gameplay, though it shows more of the gravity stuff than the portals. Personally though, valve may have ripped the idea, but by putting the portals in the player's hand, they opened up a whole new dimension that prey only hinted at. I am definitely going to do that infinite loop falling thing, that is sweet. Tongue

Bah, they didn't 'rip' the idea. Portals have been done way before Prey. They're just improving on an old idea. Tongue
As a side note, Portal was apparently based on (not ripped from  ) an independant game called Narbacular Drop.

I say 'based on' because apparently some of the people who worked on Narbacular Drop were recruited for Portal. I played Narbacular Drop the other day-- Cool concept, but absolutely HORRID movement/framerate. You're always sliding around for some reason as if you're on a skating rink, and the controls are very unresponsive... I couldn't stand playing for more than 10 minutes.
Well, at least it spawned what looks like a really cool-- er-- 'better' game? Tongue

I've read that Prey was "in the works" for a loooonnngg time, and got delayed and even canceled has it was tossled around from developer to developer... basically I think it boiled down to computers at the time not being able to handle all the cool nifty stuff that the developers wanted to be put into it. But anyways, it's out now... it's quite expensive and I've heard that it's short (I work in a GameStop so I get to hear all sorts of people praise/complain about lots of different games.) I played the demo. it was fun. Don't want to shell out $50 though.
