I think he meant setting the Windows mixer record from the "Stereo Output", press REC on a recording program (i.e. Audacity) and PLAY on a MIDI player (i.e. Winamp).

i do it in Audacity all the time. I use it to rip Songs from the Video's on the web and export them in .mp3 format (shh, don't tell anyone
). Audacity allows you to change it from inside the Program, so I don't have to even look at my messy windows tray...

You could use Hidownload to download *any* streamming media from the internet which is not FLV...
For FLV there's a plugin for firefox which lets you download straight from youtube...
