It's apparent that Google bought YouTube after only 18 months in existance for a nice tidy figure of US$1.6B (AU$2.2B). This is according to SBS World News on TV.

There are a lot of issues with the buyout in relation to the copyright breaches found all over the site. The fact that nobody has taken YT to court over these breaches is because copyright owners have nothing to get out of them. Now that Google has bought them, there is a shitload of money sitting there for copyright owners to get onto. Therefore, Google will have to take all the protected stuff offline, potentially stripping half of the site's contents, and driving users away. There are a lot of comments in reply to this guy's concerns: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=saYLgWw7SeI&NR
What about you?
Perhaps this should be in the Debate forum?
