Sokoban 3D demo!
#11
It's parsing & sorting 16 text files that are 249 KB each. That would all be changed, when the game is finished. It'll just load straight binary... No parsing, no sorting. Also, yeah, it uses stencil shadow volumes. Wink

Did it run smoothly, after it took forever to load? Tongue

Ok, I added a binary loader. Download it again please. Now, it loads so fast that you don't even see the loading percentage.

yeah it did run pretty damn smoothly after the loading. i hate sokoban - i can never figure out the solution quickly enough to be bothered actually solving it. A question about stencil shadow volumes : doing the point light source renderer is simple enough when extruding the volumes, but i could never figure out how you extrude volumes for directional lights. Sites on the net don't provide much beyond "you don't need capping even with depth-fail! Huzzah!" but where / what do you extrude towards?

I haven't done a directional light yet, but I would just occlude any vertices that are outside of n radius and calculate the light's incidence angle normally.

Same link updated again.

This time we have added music by the bad-ass, Josiah Tobin! Big Grin

Edit: oh, added some snes style fog too... Wink

Badass? No no... If I had the time I'd do a couple real badass tunes for this, the songs I gave you are like 3 year-old leftovers. Maybe I'll have time to make better ones before release.

Oh, and the music still has that excessively bassy, distorted sound for some reason... Not seeing any fog, either... Sad Though that may be because it's pretty dark and hard to see what's going on, but I blame my monitor on that.

The music's also still panned very slightly to the left, and all sound effects only seem to play in the right ear... Though it's hard to tell, they're kinda drowned out.

I hope it's just my computer, or that you can get the problems worked out if it's not-- This looks like a pretty badass engine.

I'm almost certain it's the panning is because of the quick way I threw the sound engine together. It was so fast, I can't actually believe it worked.

I had a guy from work test it last night, and he said it was so loud when it started, that he literally jumped out of his chair. The weird thing is, it's like quiet here. I must have my settings borked. I'll fix it and re-upload. I guess the easiest thing to do, would be to add some voume controls. Wink

Updated again. It has a nice animation for pushing the blocks now. I still haven't fixed the sound though. I can't wait for FBSound. I guess we could just switch to FMOD for now.

If you do, I can just give you the .it files for the songs, they're much smaller than wavs or mp3s. Tongue

God, I really hate to do this, but I'm going to go ahead and use it. They just want so much for a damn license! As soon as FBSound is released with the 3D functions & stuff, we're dropping FMOD like a smelly brick. Josiah, can you send them to me then? I don't know how long it will take me to get it working... I've never used FMOD before. Maybe a couple of hours... Maybe a couple of days.

EDIT:
It's working now. Send anytime. Big Grin
