Don't bash the FB community here. Do it on the FreeBASIC forum then, where you'll get torn apart for being a moron. We still help the newbies. Don't act like we're elitist.

Sorry for late double post but for the record, i havent been part of any menno crew or conspiracy. I know its easy to see so since he was part of ascii-world "forum" admins but that was because of total different things than he's opinions or "guidelines".

Menno's act's and words are he's own. Me, ascii-world or other persons behind of that site dont have anything to do with them.
I have noticed "hostilaty" often when i have suggested something or sayd my opinions. IE: my suggestion to change word DOS to DOS32bit in FB website to avoid misunderstandings.

I am tired to explain that i have my own opinions and peoples who might mention my name in theyr words does not represent me unless i, myself say so. Assuming in these cases are wrong imo.
I am also tired to get treated as i would be part of that 'crew' you mentioned.

I would not use sentence "old wounds". "old misunderstandings and assumings" might be better one.

Anyway, my 1 minute is done now. Lets move one, life is life...na naa naa na naa

Me neither, menn and I happened to have the same idealism about a BASIC language. There is NO menno crew. We're friends, we think the same about what BASIC should be. That's about it. I think it was way too premature of anyone to throw us all in a clan of any kind. And basically as far as I'm concerned, to throw me in the clan, is definitaly unwarranted. What menn posted on the FB forum is menn's post. It's not the result of some talking with me or EK or anyone else. What I posted were my posts. My concerns for the FB project. Menn didn't tell me to post those, neither did anyone else. Like anyone else I want FB to succeed even more than it is now. And any suggestion I've made were towards that goal and that goal alone. So I didn't appreciate the comments I've gotten, the replies from people because my intensions have always been good. Any suggestion I've made has been thrown away probably just because i hang out with menn. Even the review I made in QBE was completely my creation. Observations I've seen from FB 0.13 to 0.14 to 0.15 etc...things were changing, and I just wanted to give the FB team a little heads up on where FB was going towards. Is it a bad thing it's going towards? That wasn't the point of my review. But if Vic and lillo and anyone else wanted a BASIC that stayed like BASIC they were drifting away from that and I just wanted people to realize it in case it wasn't their goals.

I've basically put myself in the shoes of other basic users (not just QB users, VB, VB Windows, PB, RealBasic an others) and tried to lay out where questions might be asked about it. Questions in the form of well in _____BASIC you can do this, how can this be done in FB? or in ______BASIC you have this or that to take care of this or that situation what does FB offer for this?

I've never bashed FB is the best OpenSource basic there is, there's not denying that and I never once said or thought otherwise. But as you might imagine, as FB grows in popularity people from other basics will come to FB and see what it's all about. And I think the differences should be made since you and the rest of the FB team should expect to be getting more questions or comments about how different they are. It goes with popularity. People from other basics are used to the way the basic they use works. So of course that will yield questions about FB just like I've been trying to show.

But I never had one bad intension in anything I've said about FB. I was merely using my experience and knowledge and sharing it with the FB team. Since I was associated with the menn crew like you said, it's no wondering anything I said went where it did. Then one would jump to conclusions, thought I was bashing FB, stated it and suddenly it became that evening's news and everybody believed it. Funny how things get taken the wrong way just because of who said it and what "the first one to read it" thinks about it.

I hope this clears the air, because like EK, I'm getting tired of being treated the way I am, to a point I stopped suggesting or trying to influence FB in any way, let it grow into whatever direction it's going.

And no, I wasn't trying to turn FB into "my language" either. At the time, 0.15 no one but the FB dev team knew FB was possibly going towards GCC compliancy. So on our side all we could notice is the C like features being added to FB. Put yourself in the shoes of those that didn't know. It's a very different point of view on those features. If it was announced straight from FB 0.14's release that from then on FB was going to go the way of GCC, my review back then as well as probably alot of other comments made after the release of 0.16 from alot of people, would have probably been very different.

There, that's enough to read in one post ;-). I hope this clears things up. and I hope it's the last time I have to explain this and/or justify anything else I try to do. All this crap is based on one dude making the wrong assumption about me, menn and EK (like lurah said, the fact that he was at ascii-world yeah might be some reason to think so, but still somebody should have asked us before today what was really going on) and then making that wrong assumption public and poof, we're all in the same gang, we're all out to destroy FB, you name it. Man that happens fast.

So yeah, take it or leave it, that's up to you, but everything I said and wrote about FB (and you can reread them maybe with a different set of eyes) was always for the good of the FB project and ALWAYS with the best of intensions.
hen they say it can't be done, THAT's when they call me ;-).

I no longer use QB, but that's because my programming has exceeded its limitations. FB was the answer I was looking for to allow me to further my programming technique. But that doesn't mean I'm going to sit here and insult QB or QB users...use whatever you want, it's a free world after all. FB isn't for everyone, but then again, neither is QB. Most of the FB bashing is just done out of jealousy and zealousy.

I still use QuickBASIC, and, I agree, there is no good reason for bashing anybody for using what ever they want to use!
