Might actually stick with the original OS they're using now, which is Win98, and making a console mode POS. I think the current POS they have uses an MS Access 97 database, I'm going to use SQLite instead.

Being FB, the only compatability issues you'd need to worry about are external libs/programs, like databases. Is SQLite easy to learn/use?

Why not sell ex-rental DVD's after you make like 10x the money back on each one? If the DVD is in tip-top condition, sell it for like half price, and you'd be surprised just how fast they'd disappear, especially if it was not long ago a new release.
